What is the MAA Program?

Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) is a federal reimbursement program for Medi-Cal Outreach. This program allows school districts to recover a percentage of the costs incurred for the administrative activities necessary to promote the Medi-Cal health insurance program.

MAA activities are grouped into two broad categories:

  1. Outreach for Medi-Cal health insurance. Example: Provide informational flyers to families about Medi-Cal health insurance and/or Medi-Cal service providers in the community
  2. Monitoring, coordinating, referring Medi-Cal covered health services. Example: Link students with health needs (i.e. physical, mental, and dental) to Medi-Cal service providers(i.e. district staff, county health department, hospitals, and clinics)
